[STATEMENT]

My current theme is [Recreation of quality of soul]. A quality of soul is a step prior to a shadow of IDEA (in Platonic thought) emerges. My heart and this world are always moving on as mythology and incoherent existence. I observe nature, the earth, creature and human while using their fluidity,

I try to recreate the quality of soul using myself as medium. I use techniques of traditional Japanese painting but I try to find a new expression by fusing it with Manga technique that is my blood and flesh cause I grew up with it. The viewers probably lead to the world of Mythology with my Manga technique.

[STATEMENT]

Things I want to paint … that is the internal organs and a woman in the nude as its container. As many people feel flowers are beautiful, I feel the blood and the internal organs beautiful.
She as a container is lead to be alive with jealousy and grudges. I feel jealousy and grudges are the most humanistic quality among all the feelings. As I am very jealousy person and I would like to eliminate these feeling if it all possible. She is not allowed to die until she pays off her grudges as long as these ugly feelings are a base of human life.

Why I keep these subjects for my paintings?
I would like to be forgiven these feelings supposed to be hidden in daily life. Don’t you agree you have thought of these, at least once?

Almost all women in my paintings are with blank expression. The feelings in my paints that transform by the viewers and myself have many words and expressions. I avoid to paint a perfect body figure. I consciously imagine an ordinary woman to describe the common feelings.

Whatever the theme is I strongly believe the lines must be accurate and have a beautiful composition. Especially dealing with internal and external ugliness the lines must be beautiful and spacing is important. I once tried to fill out all spaces but that was not the space I imagined and stopped to draw the background. The void space is necessary and important as a single stem flower is beautiful on the wall of a teahouse.

[STATEMENT]

I paint the world I want to see such views in Science Fiction, Buddhism and decadent in wood block prints, not futuristic but create ambiences in old S.F. movies.

My interests in this worldview started when I heard music by Mr.Susumu Hirasawa. I saw a movie called “Paprika” when I was 17 and that was my first contact with Mr. Hirawasa’s musical world. His music lead me to a novel 1984 by George Orwell who influenced to Mr.Hirosawa and onto Techno-Pop music by Haruomi Hosono (Yellow Magic Orchestra). Through these experiences, I have been creating ambiences in old S.F. movies in my wood block prints. I was attached to blood less inorganic, nihilistic quality in techno-pop music by Mr.Hosono and Mr.Hirasawa. I am not good at being cheerful but the feeling of uplifting the bottom of the heart calmly excites me.

I was lead to create stories behind my paintings to describe my worldview. I create a story by selecting each word show inorganic quality. A painting completes as my story completes. One of reasons I do not disclose my stories because I do not want to disturb the viewers own interpretation of my paint. I would be very happy if the viewer can expand his or her world through my paintings. I will continue to create and expand my own world like immense universe.

I use both watercolor ink and oil base ink on Japanese paper. My images are carved on basswood plywood using baren to print.

Woodblock prints are unlike oil painting or Nihonga painting it is an indirect technique through printing. The print creates unexpected results from the original drawings, not only mistakes by distortion but also result in beautiful color. It is exciting to communicate with woodblocks. This exciting communication is also similar with a life of animals and woodblock paints are the best mean to express my animal prints.

I am an Amazoness woodblock printer.

[Statement]

I want to draw a life of animals live on instinct. I draw animals with unusually long or unusually stretched absurd shapes. The absurd shape is the expression of animals on instinct living freely. Instinctive animal behavior could be funny, scary or sad. I am charmed by a mind of animal different from human kind.

Animals act instinctually for their life and are different from complex human relationships. Their action is often contrary to human expectation. I adore such instinctive life of animals living with freedom.

Freedom of animal is limited with the law of the jungle of being attacked and eaten any moment. I would like to express their stress and tenacity to life hidden in their free living.

* Not knowing where to take the dancing fee of hand

It is a Confucian idiom from the book of Rites. It means, “ Go into raptures and dance for joy. “ The hungry tiger is in full of joy with the moment a game right in front of it and focusing on it. I have eliminated its feet from this image to match the description of the idiom. The long tail expresses the tiger is running with a lot of lively movement. Even a tiger like this one with a moment of joy could die if it does not capture the game. I showed the height of tension for life. Two birds on top left corner are laughing at a tiger with a full of joy.

* Echo flamingo

This is a song of dancing flamingo reverberating in the mountain to echo. The yellow line shows the sounds echoing in the nature.
